The demand for increased productivity and the problems associated with mining at greater depths have increased the interest in using the yield pillar concept in the United States. This paper summarizes chain pillar behaviour in a mine that historically experienced coal bumps in both room-and-pillar and longwall sections.
Results indicate that, generally, the chain pillars yield as designed Cited by: 5. Coal mine bumps, which may expel large amounts of coal and rock into the face area and cause damages to underground openings and equipments, are sudden failures near the mine entries. Coal bumps, comparable to rock bursts in noncoal mines, are localized seismic events which can rapidly and forcefully eject many tons of coal into the mine openings.
These events not only disrupt the mining process, they can also be extremely dangerous to underground personnel. A correlation between seismic tomography, seismic events and support pressure and safety at foidel creek mine Causes and control of coal mine bumps.
Haramy, K.Y. & J.P. McDonnell. Ground control is a major issue in underground coal mines. The ‘‘soft ” nature of the rock, nearby bedding, and seam depth are just a few of the factors that make coal extraction dangerous.
In the United States between andover injuries (fatal, non-fatal days lost, no days lost) were reported as a result of a fall of a roof or rib in the underground coal mine industry. Causes and Control of Coal Mine Bumps K. Haramy ve J.
